For me, inspiration can come from a particular photograph, event, or mood. Sometimes an idea will be fully formed and then translate quickly into a final product. Other times I simply feel the need to create, but the process is much slower requiring trial, error, and frustration until I achieve a desired effect.
Art has always been a part of my life; in fact, my earliest memories are of drawing pictures of horses to adorn my parent's refrigerator. Formally, my art education began in high school when I took summer art courses watercolour painting, sculpture and wildlife drawing and at Sir Sanford Fleming College's Haliburton School of Fine Arts. My undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies and History at the University of Waterloo was punctuated with many studio and art history courses. Later, at Queen's University, I became a qualified art teacher...
...and while I no longer formally teach art, I continue to create art because I am compelled to. I cannot imagine a time when that will not be true.
