I've abandoned collage for the moment... it wasn't working so I had to give it a break. Some artists will push through those moments until they get the result they want... I am not that artist! If I push myself too much I'll become more frustrated and more often than not the result will become an absolute mess. So I make a habit of abandoning half finished work., but I do go back to try to finish what I started. The best example of this process is 'All the Way to the Light', a large acrylic painting that I put in a closet for 11 months. When I pulled it out again, it came together very quickly and I was thrilled with the result. Hopefully, time and distance will give me perspective will my collage work! In the meantime, I've been working on an idea that has been rattling around in my head for awhile: hair portraits! While I am able to draw figures/portraits, I have to admit that it is a bit stressful; trying to capture the individuality in someone's eyes is one of the most challenging aspects of art. However, I've always enjoyed drawing hair so, I thought: why not draw ONLY hair. The result is in the photo above; an (almost complete) hair portrait. More to come.
